CEVA, the leading licensor of wireless connectivity and smart sensing technologies, announced that its RivieraWaves Bluetooth® Low Energy (LE) 5.2 platform has been certified by the Bluetooth Special Interest Group (SIG). As the first IP company to receive Bluetooth Low Energy 5.2 certification, CEVA enables licensees to reduce their product development risk and accelerate time-to-market and final product certification processes.
"We are honored to once again be the first IP provider in the world to achieve Bluetooth SIG certification for our RivieraWaves Bluetooth Low Energy 5.2 platform," said Ange Aznar, vice president and general manager of the Wireless IoT Business Unit at CEVA. "Version 5.2 of the Bluetooth standard introduces isochronous channels, which addresses the growing demand for high-performance and low-power wireless earbuds and other audio peripherals including headsets, smart speakers and soundbars. We will work with our licensees to bring more CEVA-enabled Bluetooth devices to the market."
Isochronous channels (ISO) on Bluetooth Low Energy are the basis of Low Energy Audio. With ISO supported by Bluetooth Low Energy 5.2, several low-latency isochronous channels can be set up to stream audio to multiple receivers, such as wireless earbuds, via Bluetooth Low Energy. Compared to Classic Audio, power consumption can be greatly reduced and a richer audio experience can be achieved. The new LC3 CODEC brings higher audio quality, while also allowing audio streaming to an unlimited number of devices through the "Audio Sharing" feature, allowing people to get audio streams from nearby TVs or monitors when in public areas.
CEVA's RivieraWaves Bluetooth IP platform provides a comprehensive solution for Bluetooth low energy and Bluetooth dual-mode connectivity. Each platform consists of a hardware baseband controller and a feature-rich software protocol stack. These platforms have a flexible radio interface and can be used with RivieraWaves RF or various partners' RF IP, enabling flexible foundry and process node selection. The RivieraWaves Bluetooth IP platform supports all the latest Bluetooth features, including LE Audio's synchronous channel ISO, direction finding (AoA/AoD), random advertising channel indexing, periodic advertising synchronous transmission, GATT caching and other enhancements. To date, the RivieraWaves Bluetooth IP platform has been used in more than 2 billion shipped devices and dozens of authorized licensees, and has been widely deployed by many of the world's leading semiconductor companies and OEMs in consumer products and IoT devices, including smartphones, tablets, wireless speakers, wireless headphones and earbuds, hearing aids and other wearable devices.
