BEIJING, April 15, 2020 – The Bluetooth Special Interest Group (SIG) today released the 2020 Bluetooth Market Update . As Bluetooth technology continues to expand from a personal communication solution to a connectivity engine for commercial and industrial applications, this report reveals the key trends and forecasts for Bluetooth technology and the market over the next five years.
From wireless audio and wearables to location services and device networking solutions, Bluetooth SIG member companies continue to meet the needs of consumer, commercial and industrial markets. The 2020 Bluetooth Market Update reveals the growth and prospects of the Bluetooth SIG member community and the development trajectory of Bluetooth technology, including trends, statistics and forecasts for each major Bluetooth solution area:
Audio transmission – Bluetooth technology has brought a revolution to the audio experience by eliminating the hassle of connecting wires and has completely changed the way people communicate through multimedia. With the introduction of Low Energy Audio (LE Audio), Bluetooth technology will once again change the way audio is experienced and connect people to the world in unprecedented ways. By 2024, annual shipments of Bluetooth audio streaming devices are expected to reach 1.5 billion, up 40% from 2019.
Data Transfer – From home appliances and fitness trackers to health sensors and medical innovations, Bluetooth technology connects billions of everyday devices and enables countless inventions. By 2024, annual shipments of Bluetooth data streaming devices will reach 1.5 billion.
Location Services – Bluetooth is the technology of choice for developers creating proximity solutions for landmark information and item tracking, as well as positioning systems for asset tracking and navigation. By 2024, annual shipments of Bluetooth location services devices will reach 538 million, up fourfold from 2019.
Device Networking – With the number of certified Bluetooth mesh-related products doubling every six months and rapid adoption by innovators in home automation and commercial lighting, Bluetooth mesh has proven its suitability for creating control, monitoring and automation systems that enable hundreds or thousands of devices to communicate reliably and securely. By 2024, the annual shipment of Bluetooth device network devices will reach 892 million.
The report points out that the main trends in the traditional Bluetooth market include:
· Audio and entertainment - Through the transformation of Bluetooth audio, the Bluetooth audio market will show a huge growth trend in the future. It is expected that the shipment of Bluetooth audio and entertainment devices will reach 1.5 billion units in 2020 alone.
· Automobile - Solutions such as keyless unlocking systems, tire pressure monitoring and status alarms have become popular and innovative applications in the automotive field recently. These use cases are creating and increasing the demand for wireless sensors. It is expected that 4 to 6 Bluetooth sensors will be installed in each car in the future.
