In fact, there is a lot of basic knowledge about transformers, such as the various classifications of transformers, which can be divided into low-frequency transformers, medium-frequency transformers, and high-frequency transformers. They can also be divided into R-type transformers, toroidal transformers, or EI-type transformers, etc. according to their appearance. They can also be divided into power transformers, electronic transformers, or power transformers, etc. If we want to know their respective principles and applications, we must learn and understand them slowly. Today, let us follow Xiao R to understand how transformers are classified by frequency and their respective uses.
Low-frequency transformers are actually what people in the industry often call industrial frequency transformers. The frequency of its operation is generally within the range of 50Hz-60Hz. It is commonly used in traditional power supplies in the past, and the stable power supply method of low-frequency transformers is linear regulation, so it is also called a linear power supply. Low-frequency transformers are usually used to transmit signal voltage and signal power, and can also achieve impedance matching between circuits, and have the function of isolating direct current. Since the iron core used in low-frequency transformers is generally silicon steel sheets with high magnetic permeability, they are highly efficient and stable in changing voltage.
Medium frequency transformers are usually used in medium frequency circuits, and their operating frequency is generally 400Hz-1000Hz. Medium frequency transformers are usually widely used in radios or televisions and other equipment. Its main function is to select frequency, that is, it is necessary to select the required frequency signal from multiple frequency signals, and the inductance of the primary and secondary windings is changed by adjusting the position of the magnetic core in the winding, so as to select signals of different frequencies.
High-frequency transformers are mainly used in high-frequency circuits, and their operating frequency is generally above 20Hz-200KHz. The operating frequency of high-frequency transformers usually exceeds that of medium-frequency transformers, so high-frequency transformers are mainly used in high-frequency switching power supplies, high-frequency inverter power supplies, and high-frequency inverter welding machines. At present, there are more and more manufacturers producing high-frequency transformers and low-frequency transformers on the market. They use different transformer skeleton materials, transformer core materials, and wire materials. The design processes of each manufacturer are also different, so the quality of transformer products is also very different. Therefore, when choosing a transformer, you should pay more attention to these materials and design processes, so that the service life and safety of the transformer can be better.
