Texas Instruments (TI) recently announced a long-term collaboration with Delta Electronics to jointly develop next-generation electric vehicle (EV) in-vehicle charging and power solutions.
The collaboration will leverage the two companies’ R&D capabilities in power management and power delivery and will be conducted at a joint innovation laboratory in Pingzhen District, Taiwan.
IT Home learned from the announcement that in the first phase of the cooperation, Delta will focus on developing a lighter and lower-cost 11kW on-board charger using the new C2000 real-time microcontroller (MCU) and active electromagnetic interference (EMI) filtering products launched by Texas Instruments. The two companies worked together to reduce the size of the charger by 30% while achieving a power conversion efficiency of up to 95%.
In the second phase, TI and Delta will integrate the new C2000 real-time MCUs into automotive applications, helping automakers achieve the automotive safety integrity level of ASIL D. Highly integrated automotive isolated gate drivers will further enhance the power density of on-board chargers while minimizing the size of the overall solution.
In the third phase, the two companies will leverage their experience in gallium nitride (GaN) technology development and manufacturing to collaborate on the development of next-generation automotive power solutions.
