STMicroelectronics (NYSE: STM), a global semiconductor leader serving customers across the spectrum of electronics applications, has announced that it has become an associate member of the Zhaga Consortium to promote the use of NFC technology in the industrial lighting market.
The Zhaga Alliance is a global industry organization dedicated to standardizing communication interfaces for LED lamps. STMicroelectronics' participation will promote the application of NFC in lighting products and accelerate the formulation and release of new standards. One of the major advantages of NFC technology is that it can improve the flexibility and production efficiency of LED driver production lines.
“The lighting industry, through the Zhaga Alliance, is paving the way for luminaires to interoperate with NFC technology, creating new opportunities for enhanced connectivity in lighting devices,” said Sylvain Fidelis, Head of NFC Tag and Reader Market Applications at STMicroelectronics. “Our deep expertise in connectivity and lighting technology is an important link in aligning NFC standards with the requirements of the lighting industry.”
Dee Denteneer, Secretary General of the Zhaga Consortium, said: “We welcome a high-quality partner like ST with extensive NFC and lighting expertise to join the alliance and look forward to working with ST to develop the best communication connectivity standards for industrial lighting devices.”
STMicroelectronics offers a wide range of semiconductor solutions for the lighting industry, including LED driver ICs and a variety of NFC tag ICs, such as the ST25DV series of NFC Forum Type 5 dynamic tags.
