Gauzy suspended particle device (SPD) liquid crystal materials will be used in the panoramic sunroof of Ferrari's high-end SUV model Purosangue. This marks the first time Ferrari has applied smart glass technology on a large scale in its automotive design. Eyal Peso, co-founder and CEO of Gauzy, said: "Ferrari's decision to use our LCG® technology in a multi-year project is a testament to the quality, sophistication and innovation of our light control products. This collaboration is the ultimate recognition of our work in improving safety, comfort and design in the automotive industry."

Unlike traditional mechanical sunshades, which can obstruct vision, reduce head (and/or cabin) room, and are difficult to clean, Gauzy’s patented SPD LCG® uses voltage to change the transparency of the glass, reducing glare and heat from direct light, eliminating the need for a sunshade system altogether. The SPD technology is licensed from nanotechnology company Research Frontiers, in which Gauzy has been a strategic investor since 2018.

In a Ferrari SUV equipped with Gauzy SPD LCG®, the driver and passengers can see the scenery outside more clearly and better control the light and temperature in the cabin, thereby improving safety and providing a more dynamic and comfortable experience.

Gauzy's SPD LCG® uses advanced technical materials to prioritize design, function and experience, setting a new standard for automotive innovation. "In addition to Ferrari, this technology is also used in sunroofs of McLaren, Mercedes and Cadillac. We expect this technology to be applied to a wider range of automotive markets in the coming years," said Eyal Peso.
