Created by the World Forum for Harmonization of Vehicle Regulations (WP.29), UNECE R155 and R156 regulations establish cybersecurity and software update requirements to strengthen the security of automotive systems. UN R155 outlines cybersecurity requirements for automotive manufacturers and applies to specific vehicle types during all stages of development, production and post-production. UN R156 sets out software update requirements for vehicle manufacturers and applies only to specific vehicle types during the post-production stage, excluding the development and production stages.

With this approval, Riscure Security Solutions can now type-approve vehicles in accordance with the UNECE WP.29 regulation, which becomes a requirement for all new vehicles produced in all UNECE countries from July 2024. Vehicles that achieve RDW agency UN R155 and UN R156 compliance cover all 27 EU countries and 37 countries worldwide (including Australia, Japan, South Korea and the UK).

With the Riscure Safety Solution, Keysight further expands its support for automakers and the entire automotive supply chain, providing a comprehensive solution to assess safety, performance and compliance throughout the vehicle lifecycle.

"When we evaluate a component or system for potential security vulnerabilities, we consider existing threats and capabilities from adversaries, as well as the types of attacks that may be relevant in the future," said Marc Witteman, director of Keysight's Device Security Research Lab . "For the automotive industry, it is critical to be prepared for future threats, as the average lifecycle of a vehicle component is typically measured in decades. RDW approval marks an important milestone for Keysight and solidifies our position as a trusted partner in ensuring vehicle safety and regulatory compliance."
