"The cycle of self-developed power batteries is very long. It takes a lot of time from building production lines to ramping up production capacity. It cannot be achieved overnight. It is difficult for self-developed power batteries to take the lead. Even if time passes, GAC Aian's self-developed power batteries can successfully achieve mass production. It is impossible to break the existing market structure, and purchasing from power battery companies is still an important way to obtain power batteries," the investor said.
"In fact, power battery companies are more specialized in manufacturing power batteries. In the short to medium term, GAC Aian's self-developed power batteries will not account for a large proportion, and the production capacity cannot even meet internal supply. GAC Aian's self-developed power batteries will not This means that it can occupy a position in the power battery market. McKinsey once evaluated whether new energy vehicle companies should develop their own power batteries or outsource them. The conclusion is that when the annual output of new energy vehicle companies exceeds 500,000 vehicles, self-developed power batteries may have a cost advantage.
However, so far, the only new energy vehicle companies with annual output of new energy vehicles reaching more than 500,000 units are Tesla and BYD.
In fact, GAC Aian has not fully bet on self-developed power batteries. According to the plan, GAC Aian will adopt a "three-legged walking" model in the supply of power batteries, which are selective outsourcing, joint venture and cooperative production, and Self-study.

"However, in the future, self-research and self-production of core supply chains may become the main theme of competition among new energy vehicle companies. GAC Aion has undoubtedly sounded the clarion call for new energy vehicle companies to integrate supply chains." Cao Tao said.
