Tesla has pushed a new software update that enables Autopilot to better use regenerative braking, according to Electrek.
With the intelligent use of regenerative braking, the efficiency of electric powertrains will further distance themselves from that of internal combustion engines. Automakers have already adopted this technology in many different ways to control the intensity of regenerative braking, including recovering energy to charge the battery when the vehicle slows down.
Tesla is known to have one of the most aggressive regenerative braking systems, but it also has the lowest level of customization. The automaker previously only had two options - Standard and Low, but it eliminated both of them for 2020, leaving Standard as the default.
It can take some time for new EV drivers to get used to the increased regenerative braking capabilities that can even enable one-pedal driving, as sometimes the car comes to a complete stop very quickly just by releasing the accelerator. Now Tesla has begun releasing a new software update (2022.4) that improves this balance, using more regenerative braking at lower speeds.
