Beijing time, December 20 morning news, according to reports, in 2022, Samsung will not only release new products in the fields of technical equipment (mobile phones, wearable devices, etc.), but also new technical equipment created specifically for the electric vehicle and autonomous driving car markets. The company has already started producing new equipment, and the first batch of equipment will enter the market in the first week of January 2022.
The Tesla Cybertruck, which is about to be launched on the market, will use Tesla's latest Hardware 4 computer for the first time. According to reports from Korean media, Samsung will beat TSMC to win the contract to produce the chips used in the computer.
In September this year, a source revealed to Korean media: "Tesla and Samsung's foundry department have been working on chip design and sample development since this year. Recently, Tesla decided to outsource the production of HW 4.0 autonomous driving chips to Samsung, and the two parties have almost reached a deal."
The new Hardware 4 computer will replace the Hardware 3 computer currently used in Tesla vehicles and supports the company's semi-autonomous driving system. Elon Musk has previously claimed that the new computer will improve driving safety by 1,000% compared to human drivers. Compared with the previous generation of computers, its safety will be improved by 300%.
South Korean media previously reported that the new chip will be produced at Samsung's Hwasung plant and will use a 7-nanometer process, which is slightly less advanced than the 5-nanometer technology currently used by Samsung, but the latter can ensure higher yields and better chip stability.
Samsung has been working hard to develop new products, and a few months ago they finished the development phase of a new product that is completely aimed at the electric vehicle market. The current automotive field is undergoing a revolution, and for Samsung, an electronic equipment company, on the one hand, they have to carry out battery research and development and production work, and on the other hand, they also have to give the team more power to solve the new challenges that electric vehicles will face in the future: the strong demand for better infotainment systems and better autonomous driving technology.
Samsung has begun mass production of its latest DDR4 memory, GDDR6 graphics memory, UFS storage chips and new SSD hard drives. All are designed specifically to improve the performance of electric and self-driving cars in the coming years. These devices will stand out from the competition in the market due to their greater responsiveness and improved graphics efficiency and capabilities.
These new products offer a significant performance improvement over the previous generation of electronic devices. Among these specs, we can see that the new SSD has a storage capacity of 256GB (enough to meet all the needs of current electric vehicles) and its performance is impressive, with the new SSD being 7 times higher than the current storage disk in terms of sequential read speed compared to today's pure electric vehicles.
This new, more powerful batch of devices will not only provide the most advanced technology for upcoming self-driving cars, but will also do the same job in other areas, such as navigation, high-definition images, connectivity with smartphones, etc., with performance far higher than what we can currently enjoy. They can also be used to transmit videos and 3D games to provide entertainment services for passengers on the car, thereby enhancing the riding experience.
Samsung's new devices have passed all stress tests, and the company has checked and analyzed the performance of the devices under various conditions. The company has specified that the new devices meet the AEC-Q100 standard, which ensures that they can perform at their maximum performance in climates with extreme temperature ranges. Specifically, the new devices are able to operate in low and high temperatures. Samsung has already started production of the new devices, which will be installed in the next generation of electric and autonomous vehicles.
