According to foreign media reports, WaveSens, a supplier of Ground Positioning Radar™ that can accurately locate vehicles, announced the release of its next-generation radar Aegis and changed its company name to GPR. The new name indicates that Ground Positioning Radar™ will gradually become an industry standard, redefining the possibilities of ADAS and AV by providing vehicle positioning for all conditions.

Aegis is the third generation of GPR’s proprietary radar and has been piloted for mass production by automakers. Compared to previous versions, this latest product was developed in a shorter period of time, is 80% smaller per unit, consumes less power, and has improved performance.
Using Ground Positioning Radar™, GPR maps the road infrastructure beneath the vehicle and remains completely unique and stable over a long period of time, similar to a fingerprint. As a result, vehicles equipped with GPR are able to navigate within the mapped area. These vehicles are able to quickly find their position with extreme accuracy and reliability, regardless of the environment surrounding the vehicle, such as inclement weather, lack of clear lane markings or landmarks, and when inside parking garages.
“Aegis marks an inflection point for GPR as we continue to meet the high-volume requests from automakers for self-driving features that work well in adverse road conditions,” said Tarik Bolat, GPR co-founder and CEO. “It is clear to our automaker partners that GPR has the potential to fundamentally change the self-driving experience.”
“The launch of Aegis marks a major step forward for GPR and the industry as we move closer to commercialization of a first-of-its-kind product,” said Byron Stanley, GPR co-founder and CTO. “GPR provides extremely accurate and reliable vehicle positioning, addressing a pressing need among automakers and drivers for safer, higher-performing advanced driver assistance systems today, and solutions that enable an autonomous driving future.”
GPR is working with some of the world’s largest OEMs and suppliers to integrate its centimeter-level precision technology into consumer vehicles and commercial trucks, advancing ADAS technology and further accelerating the commercialization of autonomous vehicles.
Earlier this year, GPR announced a $15 million funding round led by top technology investors Rhapsody Venture Partners and Impossible Ventures.
