Another advantage is to slow down battery aging and improve safety. Considering its ChargeBIG Power charging solution presented at the IAA, the cooling solution design has the potential to provide a charging output of up to 750kW. In addition, immersion cooling greatly shortens the charging time of electric vehicles. As a result, the battery can be smaller, thereby reducing the cost of electric vehicles and improving resource efficiency.

With this technology, MAHLE is expected to further achieve market penetration and promote the development of battery-powered electric mobility. "Immersion cooling paves the way for the development of a new generation of battery systems," said Martin Berger, head of corporate research and advanced engineering at MAHLE. In July 2020, the supplier presented a new cooling capacitor. It is said that the capacitor is optimized for fast charging of electric vehicles and is "powerful enough" to be used in combination with the new cooling system.

MAHLE wants to use its expertise in the field of e-mobility, including thermal management, plastics and power electronics, to develop new integrated solutions for electric vehicles. The group focuses on areas where e-mobility still needs to improve, such as charging speed, range, resource conservation and price.
