Recently, LiDAR manufacturer Luminar will showcase its Proactive Safety system for the first time in a road demonstration of a European automaker’s vehicle. In addition, Webasto, a global Tier 1 automotive supplier, will also showcase an integrated roof that uses Iris as the main LiDAR sensor, and Inalfa, a global Tier 1 automotive supplier, will also integrate Luminar’s Iris LiDAR into the roof design.
It is understood that based on the automotive-grade LiDAR Iris, Luminar has developed a solution that integrates hardware and software to realize the Proactive Safety system. The system can provide vehicles with more accurate detection results, is faster and has a longer detection distance than cameras and radars, and can actively avoid collision accidents at higher speeds. Previously, Webasto and Inalfa became Luminar's key industry allies to achieve standardized LiDAR autonomous driving system solutions on all consumer vehicles.
The companies will seamlessly integrate Luminar’s technology to provide automakers with roof-integrated design solutions, paving the way for mass-produced autonomous vehicles as the technology becomes standardized.
