On June 29, at the 8th Great Wall Motors Science and Technology Festival, Great Wall Motors officially introduced its new power battery, Dayu Battery, to the outside world and announced that it would open up Dayu Battery patents for free.
Great Wall Motors said that Dayu Battery, as the next generation of new power batteries, will be installed in Great Wall Motors' new energy series models. Great Wall Motors also said that this battery will bring power battery safety to a new level in the industry.
According to official introduction, Dayu battery is characterized by large-capacity high-nickel battery cells, which can prevent fire and explosion in the event of thermal runaway.
In a media interview, Shan Hongyan, vice president of Great Wall Motors, revealed: "(Dayu Battery) technology research took less than a year and has eight new design concepts."
Regarding the battery safety issue that the outside world is concerned about, Shan Hongyan further explained from a technical perspective: "It is impossible to achieve 100% thermal runaway management at the cell level, but it is possible to control the battery pack from catching fire or exploding at the system level. That is, by introducing an intelligent cooling system and rapidly cooling down through current commutation, (Dayu Battery) can ensure directional explosion disposal of thermal runaway cells."
It is worth mentioning that at the press conference, Great Wall Motors introduced that in the test experiment on Dayu battery, the battery did not have open flames or explosions under the harsh conditions of a maximum temperature of 1037 degrees Celsius and an instantaneous maximum pressure of about 16 kilopascals (KPa), and the exhaust gas temperature was below 100 degrees Celsius. "The experiment of the third-party company is completely consistent with our simulation results." Shan Hongyan added in the interview.
