On May 5, OmniVision Technologies, Inc., a leading developer of advanced digital imaging solutions, announced the launch of a new matching image signal processor (ISP) OAX4000, which provides design flexibility for the next generation of automotive single-camera and multi-camera architectures, allowing OEMs to adapt to future developments and change or add functional designs as market demand changes. Combined with OmniVision's comprehensive sensor product portfolio, OAX4000 can provide the ultimate automotive solution for applications inside and outside the vehicle.
The OAX4000 is a high-performance application-specific integrated circuit (ASIC) that is ideal for a variety of automotive applications, including surround view systems, electronic mirrors, interior and autonomous driving cameras, and is capable of processing data streams from four 3MP (megapixel) cameras or one 8MP camera. In addition, it supports color filter array (CFA) mode and provides output stream options for machine vision and human vision pipelines respectively. The imaging pipeline has now been upgraded to provide excellent image quality. This includes a next-generation tone mapping algorithm.
“Our mission is to help automotive OEMs understand the problems they need to solve today and tomorrow,” said Andy Hanvey, director of automotive marketing at OmniVision. “The new OAX4000 ISP provides design flexibility and a compact form factor to accommodate multiple camera architectures, reducing development complexity and cost. In addition, this high-performance ASIC can address a wide range of camera use cases.”
high performance
The OAX4000 is a companion ISP for OmniVision HDR sensors, designed to provide a complete solution for multi-camera detection applications with fully processed YUV output. In addition, the OAX4000 is capable of processing four camera modules with 140 dB HDR, industry-leading LED flicker mitigation (LFM) performance and 8MP resolution. The ISP supports multiple CFA modes including Bayer, RCCB, RGB-IR, and RYYCy. Compared with the previous generation, the OAX4000 can save at least 30% of power.
Compact structure
Traditional electronic control modules require two ISPs, but the new OAX4000 only requires one, reducing design complexity and space, and improving overall reliability.
OmniVision will introduce the OAX4000 ISP at the AutoSens conference in Detroit, May 12-13, 2021. An overview and video demonstration will be available during the online conference. The OAX4000 meets ASIL B safety standards and is currently available for sampling and production.
