On April 23, Continental and Horizon signed a memorandum of cooperation at the 2021 Shanghai Auto Show, announcing the establishment of a joint venture for intelligent driving, which will give full play to the advantages of both parent companies in product quality, supply chain, and artificial intelligence chips and algorithms, and provide industry-leading advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) and autonomous driving software and hardware system solutions for Chinese and global vehicle manufacturers.
The establishment of the intelligent driving joint venture is an important practice to continue the beneficial experience and achievements of the cooperation between the two parties and to further deepen the cooperation. Continental and Horizon have reached a cooperation intention in 2020. Horizon's Journey series automotive-grade AI chips and algorithms will be integrated into Continental's various ADAS products. The two parties will work together to create high-performance, high-quality intelligent driving solutions suitable for Chinese driving scenarios.
Frank Petznick, head of Continental's Advanced Driver Assistance Systems division, said: "Under the huge wave of automotive intelligence, automotive technology and business models are undergoing major changes. Therefore, in addition to continuously strengthening our product portfolio, we also need to promote innovation. Therefore, we are very pleased to cooperate with Horizon Robotics, a well-known smart chip company, to carry out cutting-edge technology cooperation in the field of visual perception and planning, and jointly create smart driving solutions with higher performance and better quality."
Dr. Kai Yu, founder and CEO of Horizon Robotics, said: "Smart cars are a disruptive innovation comparable to the birth of computers. With the breakthrough of smart car technology and the large-scale implementation of the industry, a new era of innovation has begun. Continental is a world-leading automotive technology company with deep accumulation in the automotive industry and has always been a leader in automotive technology innovation. Horizon Robotics is honored to form a close partnership with Continental to continue to deepen cooperation, explore cutting-edge automotive technology, and jointly promote the large-scale mass production of industry-leading smart driving solutions, using technological innovation to bring people a safer and better travel experience."
In the future, Continental and Horizon Robotics will continue to accelerate the product development and mass production of intelligent driving, rely on the intelligent driving joint venture to provide better local service support for the Chinese automobile market, and promote the development of China's and the world's intelligent automobile industry.
