As the global trend of new energy development becomes increasingly clear, the most core power batteries are still controlled by China, Japan and South Korea. The existence of this core technical factor is bound to change the previous situation of "strong West and weak East" in the automotive industry.

Recently, South Korea's SNE Research released the global lithium-ion power battery shipments in 2019. The data showed that the total shipments of lithium-ion power batteries last year were 116.6GWh, a year-on-year increase of 16.6%.

Most notably, CATL continued to win the title of global power battery shipment in 2019, completing its "three consecutive championships". At the same time, CATL's growth rate and shipments have expanded compared to the second-place Panasonic.

In addition to CATL, other Chinese power battery companies that made it into the TOP10 include BYD, AESC (acquired by Envision), Guoxuan, and Lishen, a total of five companies, two fewer than in 2018.

Among the remaining five power battery companies, three are from South Korea, one more than in 2018, namely LG Chem, SDI and SKI, of which SKI is among the top ten for the first time. There are two from Japan, Panasonic and PEVE (a joint venture between Toyota and Panasonic).

In terms of market share, five Chinese companies accounted for 45.1%, down 2.4% from 47.5% in 2018; three Korean companies accounted for 15.78%, up 3.88% from 11.9% in 2018; two Japanese companies accounted for 25.99%, down 3.21% from 29.2% in 2018 (including AESC).

In addition, after several years of vigorous development, the Matthew effect in the global power battery market has become increasingly apparent.

The combined market share of CATL and Panasonic increased from 44.7% in 2018 to 51.97% in 2019. The share of companies not on the list fell from 19.90% in 2018 to 13.12%.
