At the 2020 North American CES, there is a so-called "International Pavilion". However, what's interesting is that in this "International Pavilion", most of the exhibitors are from China, and many Chinese brands basically join forces to participate in the exhibition through third-party platforms. Despite this, Chinese exhibitors still account for almost one-third of the number of exhibitors at this year's North American CES.
However, compared with the collective muscle-flexing of German, American, Japanese and Korean automakers, "pure-bred" Chinese brands were hard to find at the 2020 North American CES. After walking 21 kilometers through the exhibition hall, I actually found a mass-produced Chinese brand car at the WESTGATE exhibition hall - GAC New Energy Aion LX! This is also the first time that a mass-produced Chinese brand car has appeared at the entire North American CES so far.
However, GAC New Energy did not participate in the exhibition independently this time. The GAC New Energy Aion LX was found at the Corning Glass booth. As for why the GAC New Energy Aion LX appeared at the Corning booth, the on-site staff said that the curved glass of the central control dual screen of the Aion LX was provided by Corning, using Corning's latest "cold bending technology". This is the first time that the glass has been used in a mass-produced car, eliminating the glass seam in the middle of the dual screen, and the visual experience and touch are impeccable. According to Corning, this is the largest "curved screen" currently used in a mass-produced car.
As the first Chinese mass-produced car to land at CES, Aion LX is based on GAC New Energy's GEP 2.0 pure electric exclusive platform and is equipped with the world's first mass-produced three-in-one motor. It is light in weight, has high torque, and its battery is advanced enough. Its actual endurance is one of the best in the world.
In addition, GAC also released the ADiGO intelligent driving interconnection ecosystem, which is an ecosystem independently developed by GAC and supported by multiple strategic partners such as Tencent and Huawei. It is an intelligent driving interconnection ecosystem that integrates smart factory ecology, autonomous driving system and Internet of Things system. This system not only has car-machine interconnection and smart home interconnection functions, but also can determine the time when the traffic light changes. It can automatically find charging piles according to route planning and give the most optimized charging strategy - after all, the battery charges fastest when it is low on power. There is a clear difference in time economy between charging fully and driving for a while and charging for a while. Optimizing the charging strategy can save a lot of time for car owners. With the assistance of this system, GAC New Energy has also developed its own L2.5 to L3 level autonomous driving technology.
Speaking of autonomous driving technology, a GAC New Energy insider at the scene also exclusively revealed a piece of important news to AutoLab, that is, the first high-precision map deflection plug-in license in China issued by the Ministry of Natural Resources of China will be settled in GAC.
So, what is a high-precision map deflection plug-in? Simply put, the earth is round, but the map is flat. In the process of "lifting" the three-dimensional surface into a plane, there is a deflection process. The higher the latitude, the more serious the map deflection phenomenon. For example, from China to the United States, all the route maps are curved upward. In fact, from the globe, the route between the two cities of China and the United States is absolutely a straight line. From Beijing to Chicago, although the route looks longer, the actual distance is not necessarily farther than that from Hong Kong to Los Angeles - this is the impact of flat map deflection on positioning.
In addition, anyone who has used mobile phone navigation knows that sometimes, even though the phone is in an open-air location, there is an error of several meters from the actual known location, and the positioning point on the phone will jump around within a few meters - this is the so-called "GPS drift" phenomenon. The scientific explanation is that it is caused by the lack of deflection plug-in correction.
Such maps are usually fine for navigation, but if the HD map lacks deflection correction, it will be a big problem. If there is no deflection correction, the positioning drift error of the HD map can reach up to 1.7 meters. What is the concept of 1.7 meters? Basically, it is equivalent to the width of a car. If the positioning of the L3 autonomous driving system of the car company relies more on the absolute positioning of the flat map, then the map deflection may cause lane matching errors.
At present, AutoNavi is working closely with the National Geographic Information Administration to test and adjust the deflection plug-in that can adapt to the needs of autonomous driving. However, what no one expected was that the company that obtained the first commercial high-precision map deflection plug-in license in China was GAC, an independent brand car company! This feeling is like Zhang Wuji in "The Heaven Sword and Dragon Saber" accidentally learning the Great Shift of the Universe, which stunned the orthodox Mingjiao, which is quite dramatic.
This means that in the future L3 autonomous driving technology game, GAC has its own core competitive technology. With its own commercial high-precision map deflection plug-in, GAC can use fewer sensors and lower costs to achieve commercial L3 autonomous driving in the future.
