Beijing, China - January 24, 2013 - Silicon Laboratories (NASDAQ: SLAB), a leader in high-performance analog and mixed-signal ICs, will showcase wireless solutions for advanced metering infrastructure (AMI) at the DistribuTECH Smart Grid Conference, held January 29-31 in San Diego, California, USA. Silicon Labs' mixed-signal products, including wireless radios, ultra-low-power 8-bit microcontrollers (MCUs), 32-bit Precision32™ MCUs and digital isolators, can provide powerful support for communication, sensing, calibration, timing, processing, security and reliability of smart meters. Silicon Labs will highlight its Ember® ZigBee® SoCs and EZRadioPRO® sub-GHz wireless transceivers, as well as easy-to-use wireless development tools in the DistribuTECH booth 3433.
According to a recent market research report from IHS, the current global smart meter installation volume is less than 18% of the total 1.4 billion meters installed, and it is expected that the installation volume of smart meters will double by the end of 2016. In addition, IHS predicts that global smart meter shipments will surge in 2015, and smart meter projects have been launched in Europe and developing economies, and China is the most important market for smart meters.
Silicon Labs is a leading wireless technology provider for AMI applications, including wireless home area networks (HANs), which connect thermostats and other indoor systems to meters or gateways, and neighborhood area networks (NANs), which aggregate data from thousands of meters and transmit it back to utility providers. Silicon Labs' Ember ZigBee products and sub-GHz products provide wireless connectivity solutions for smart meters from leading AMI vendors, including Landis+Gyr, Elster, Itron, Robulink and Holley Metering.
About Ember ZigBee and EZRadioPRO Wireless Solutions
Based on the ARM Cortex-M3 processor, the Ember ZigBee platform is the most complete and feature-rich ZigBee solution for 2.4GHz wireless networks, providing unparalleled wireless performance, low power consumption and high code density in a small package. Ember ZigBee is the most widely used ZigBee platform in mesh networks and can be used as an SoC for cost-sensitive sensor networks and other simple connected devices, or as a network coprocessor (NCP) for complex applications running on high-performance application processors.
The EZRadioPRO series is a sub-GHz transceiver with the industry's highest performance and lowest power consumption, designed to maximize transmission distance and battery life for power-sensitive wireless systems. It provides continuous frequency coverage of 119-1050MHz, industry-leading RF performance, effectively extends wireless transmission distance, and complies with the industry's most stringent narrowband regulatory standards. The excellent power efficiency of the EZRadioPRO series can greatly reduce the number of battery replacements and/or reduce battery size.
