FCI has expanded its flexible circuit connector product line by introducing the SFGL series of FPC connectors with ZIF terminations. The flip-back active cover connector with a pitch of 0.4 mm and a height of 0.9 mm is suitable for tablet computers.
In addition, the VLP series, an enhanced version of the previous FPC ZIF connector SFVL series, is now also available in 0.5mm pitch and 0.7mm height, providing secure mating within a limited board spacing range. The connector meets the common standards of ZIF connectors used for backlights and touch screens, and is commonly used in smartphones and mobile phones due to its higher cable retention force and rear flip cover.
The SFGL and VLP series complement FCI's flexible circuit connector product line, including ZIF (zero insertion force) and non-zero insertion force, upper and lower contact options, vertical and right-angle orientations, surface mount and through-hole solder packaging processes, etc., extending to 0.20 mm pitch.
"Smartphones and tablets are evolving rapidly, and product redesigns can reduce time to market," said Koji Kowata, FCI Marketing and Business Development Manager. "FCI wants to be the first and only stop for customers, whether they are redesigning an existing product or designing an entirely new one, who expect high-quality, proven components that meet consumer end-product specifications. FCI is the first company to offer FFC/FPC options with heights below 1mm, and we will continue to advance our technology and expand the product options we offer our customers."
Other features of the FFC/FPC product line, such as optional cable locks and mounting devices, ensure that it can be used in almost any application, no matter how demanding the application requirements. FCI introduced the first flexible line connector with a flip-back cover, allowing users to insert the flexible cable and lock the cover with one hand. FCI has enhanced this feature by changing the connector housing, ensuring the reliability of flexible cable insertion through visual confirmation.
