MAX6581 Accurate, 8-Channel Temperature Sensor Reduces Board Space
8-channel, high-precision temperature sensor effectively reduces circuit board area and overall system cost
Maxim's newest temperature sensor is accurate to ±1°C and can monitor multiple heat sources with a single I²C address.
SUNNYVALE, CA. September 15, 2010. Maxim Integrated Products (NASDAQ: MXIM) introduces the MAX6581, an 8-channel temperature sensor with ±1°C accuracy . The device features seven remote sensing channels to monitor ASICs, FPGAs, CPUs, and circuit boards with multiple heat sources. Each remote sensing channel features series resistance cancellation and beta compensation for maximum accuracy. The MAX6581 includes eight temperature sensing channels, but requires only a single I²C address, which reduces board space and overall system cost.
The device can replace eight local sensors or seven single-channel remote sensors and measure the die temperature of an external IC with an internal temperature diode. The MAX6581 also compensates for parasitic series resistance. In addition, each of the seven remote sensing channels can be used to measure board temperature using discrete diode-connected transistors.
The MAX6581 is available in a 4mm x 4mm, 24-pin TQFN package with an exposed pad. The device operates over the -40°C to +125°C temperature range. Chip prices start at $1.24 (1000 pieces, FOB USA).
