Infrared rays have a good thermal effect, because infrared rays can only penetrate the gaps between atoms and molecules but cannot penetrate into the interior of atoms and molecules, so they will accelerate the vibration of atoms and molecules and increase the distance between them, that is, increase the thermal motion energy. From a macroscopic perspective, matter is melting, boiling, and vaporizing, but the essence of matter (atoms and molecules themselves) has not changed. This is the thermal effect of infrared rays.
Because of the thermal effect of infrared rays, the application of infrared rays is becoming more and more extensive, and it has made great contributions in military, artificial satellites, industry, health, scientific research, etc. Infrared rays are mainly used in: high temperature sterilization, infrared night vision devices, monitoring equipment, infrared ports of mobile phones, hotel door cards, remote controls of cars and TVs, infrared sensors of wash basins, induction doors in front of restaurants, infrared cameras, etc.
