Principle and Application of Intelligent Power Module
The IPM series products developed by Mitsubishi Electric Corporation of Japan belong to the third generation of intelligent power modules. It uses the third generation IGBT to replace the traditional power MOSFET and bipolar Darlington tube, and is equipped with a fully functional control and protection circuit to form an ideal high-frequency soft switching module. This type of module is particularly suitable for variable voltage and variable frequency (VVVF) inverters with sinusoidal wave output.
The internal block diagram of the IPM series is shown in Figure 5. The module mainly includes undervoltage protection circuit, IGBT driving circuit, overcurrent protection circuit, short circuit protection circuit, temperature sensor and overheat protection circuit, gate circuit and IGBT. The schematic diagram of the general VVVF inverter composed of this series of products with a 16-bit single-chip microcomputer is shown in Figure 6.
