New semiconductor lasers can avoid damage to human eyes

Recently, Xi'an Juguan Technology Co., Ltd., a high-tech enterprise specializing in the research and development and production of high-power semiconductor lasers, was jointly founded by the Xi'an Institute of Optics and Precision Mechanics of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and a team composed of several returned overseas students. It has successfully developed and launched a conduction-cooled single-array continuous semiconductor laser with a wavelength of 1550 nanometers and a maximum output power of 20W. This product has reached the international leading level.

The safe exposure of 1550nm laser to human eyes is 400,000 times that of 1064nm Nd:YAG laser and 1 million times that of 10.6μm CO2 laser. When the distance to be measured is far, the traditional 1064nm Nd:YAG laser distance meter often needs to increase the laser emission power in order to receive the return light signal, which poses a hidden danger to human eye safety. The 1550nm laser distance meter solves this problem well.
