The box-type transformer is also called a combined transformer.
The combined transformer was first developed by an American electrical company. In the United States, it is called a pedestal transformer, and in China it is also called an American box transformer. The fuse, multi-position ring network load switch, and off-excitation voltage tap changer of this transformer are all installed in the transformer oil tank as components of the transformer. It is easy to replace the fuse or operate the load switch outside the oil tank to change the operating conditions of the transformer. The high-voltage side is input with an elbow-shaped cable that can be plugged in and out with load. A low-voltage outlet bin is installed outside the oil tank. There is space in the bin to install protective devices and measuring instruments as required. All live parts are in the box, and there are no exposed live parts. Because the main components are in the oil tank, we call it a combined transformer instead of a box-type substation. But the combined transformer also has the function of a box-type substation. Six cable sockets are installed on the high-voltage side, which can connect the transformer to the ring network power supply system and form a ring network power supply system with a cabinet-type ring network box or a cable branch box. Therefore, combined transformers, pedestal transformers, or simply American box transformers all refer to the same product, the main body is the transformer, not the substation.
Box transformer: Equivalent to combined (box) substation.
The box transformer is a frame structure, welded with steel sections, the frame is covered with aluminum alloy plates, and coated with a special paint layer, so that it has strong mechanical properties, weather resistance, and corrosion resistance. When the combined (box) substation is an integral structure, the box is divided into three relatively independent small rooms, namely the high-voltage room, transformer room, and low-voltage room, by steel plates. The lighting in each room is automatically shut down when the door is opened. There is an
insulation layer on the top of the combined (box) substation. In high-temperature and cold areas, the temperature in the box is prone to accumulation and change and condensation. An insulation layer can be added around the box. In order to stabilize the temperature in the box, the transformer room and the low-voltage room are equipped with automatic temperature control devices.
Combined (box) substations can effectively prevent the invasion of small animals. The maintenance of the transformer is easily pushed and pulled out by a detachable trolley. There are four corresponding pull-out and push-in hanging bolts on both sides of the box base, and four supports with the same function on both sides of the eaves, which can be hoisted and transported as a whole.
The combined (box-type) substation is an outdoor, oil-based power distribution complete set composed of three parts: high-voltage switchgear, power transformer, and low-voltage switchgear. The product has the characteristics of strong completeness, small footprint, small investment, convenient installation and maintenance, beautiful appearance, and strong weather resistance. It
is widely used in high-rise buildings, residential areas, mines, oil fields, public power distribution, stations, docks and other enterprises and institutions and temporary power places for power distribution.
The cabinet transformer has a simpler structure than the box transformer, and the main body of the equipment is still the transformer. There are fewer related equipment, such as transformers, high-voltage circuit breakers, cable terminals, zinc oxide lightning arresters, etc. in the box.
