S3C2440A is a 16/32-bit reduced instruction set (RISC) microprocessor launched by Samsung. It is based on the ARM920T core of the ARM v9 series and mainly provides low-power, high-performance small-chip microcontroller solutions for handheld devices and general applications.
The outstanding feature of S3C2440A is its processor core, which is a 16/32-bit ARM920T RISC processor designed by Advanced RISC Machines (ARM). ARM920T implements MMU, AMBA bus and Harvard structure cache architecture. This structure has independent 16KB instruction cache and 16KB data cache. Each is composed of 8-word lines.
Based on the functional description of the chip, S3C2440A integrates the following on-chip functions:
● 1.2V core power supply, 1.8V/2.5V/3.3V memory power supply, 3.3V external I/O power supply, microprocessor with 16KB instruction cache and 16KB data cache and MMU
● External memory controller (SDRAM control and chip select logic)
● LCD controller (supports up to 4K color STN and 256K color TFT) provides 1 channel LCD dedicated DMA
● 4-channel DMA with external request pin
● 3-channel UART (IrDA1.0, 64-byte transmit FIFO and 64-byte receive FIFO)
● 2-channel SPI
● 1 channel IIC bus interface (supports multiple hosts)
● 1 channel IIS bus audio encoder interface
● AC'97 codec interface
● Compatible with SD host interface protocol version 1.0 and MMC card protocol version 2.11
● 2-channel USB host/1-channel USB device (Version 1.1)
● 4-channel PWM timer and 1-channel internal timer/watchdog timer
● 8-channel 10-bit ADC and touch screen interface
● RTC with calendar function
● Camera interface (supports up to 4096×4096 pixel input; 2048×2048 pixel input supports scaling)
● 130 general purpose I/O ports and 24 channels of external interrupt sources
● Normal, Slow, Idle and Power-down modes
● With PLL on-chip clock generator
