TI low-power through-glass touch reference design [Copy link]

This post was last edited by Jacktang on 2020-9-21 21:05

As one of the main ways of interaction between humans and machines, the human machine interface (HMI) is a fundamental part of process plants.
The TIDA-00343 reference design provides an HMI solution for applications in harsh and hazardous areas. In process plants, operators need to interact with an explosion-proof display/controller enclosed in a screw-down metal enclosure with a thick glass window for local readout and programming functions.

The TIDA-00343 TI Design, which uses an MSP430 microcontroller (MCU) with CapTIvate technology, allows operators to interact with the controller without opening the enclosure, saving time by eliminating work permits or plant shutdowns.

Features
Four robust button options implemented
Variable air gap between button and glass (1-2mm)
Finger detection through 10mm thick glass
Works with gloves and can withstand harsh environments (water, oil, dust, etc.)
Temperature range: -40°C to 85°CLow
power consumption (~10Hz scan frequency): 240A average
