According to the latest report released by market research firm TrendForce, the output value of the top ten wafer foundries reached US$33.2 billion in the second quarter of this year, but due to the weakening consumer market conditions, the month-on-month growth rate has slowed to 3.9%.

As for specific manufacturers, TSMC benefited from strong demand for HPC, IoT and automotive stocking, with revenue of US$18.15 billion in the second quarter, ranking first. However, due to the increase in wafer prices in the first quarter, the revenue base was raised, and the quarter-on-quarter growth slowed to 3.5%. In addition, due to the continuous increase in the volume of new product processes of HPC customers such as Nvidia, AMD, and Bitmain, TSMC's 5nm and 4nm revenue increased by about 11.1% quarter-on-quarter, which was the process node with the best revenue performance in the second quarter; although 7nm and 6nm were affected by the uncertain market outlook for mid- and low-end smartphones and customers revised their orders, they were still supported by mainstream products of HPC customers, and the revenue of this process node increased by 2.8% quarter-on-quarter.

Samsung's 7nm and 6nm production capacity has been gradually converted to 5nm and 4nm processes, and the yield rate has continued to improve, driving its second-quarter revenue to US$5.59 billion, a quarterly increase of 4.9%. At the same time, the first 3GAE process using the GAA architecture was officially mass-produced at the end of the second quarter of this year, and the first wave of customers was the mining company PanSemi. However, due to the complex production process of 3nm, it will take about two quarters to produce, so it is expected that 3nm will not contribute to revenue until the end of 2022 at the earliest.

UMC's new 28/22nm production capacity was successfully launched in the second quarter, driving the growth of overall wafer shipments and average selling price. The revenue share of this process node increased to 22% this quarter. The second quarter revenue reached US$2.45 billion, an increase of 8.1% quarter-on-quarter, ranking first in growth.

GlobalFoundries benefited from the release of a small amount of new production capacity and the fact that most of the production capacity has been secured under long-term contracts (LTAs). Its second-quarter revenue reached US$1.99 billion, a quarterly increase of 2.7%.

SMIC's revenue in the second quarter reached US$1.9 billion, a quarterly increase of 3.3%. The revenue share of the smartphone field fell to 25.4%. The smart home field maintained strong growth momentum. Application products include network communication, smart control devices Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, PMIC, MCU peripheral IC, etc. The revenue of this type of application increased by about 23.4% quarterly.

The sixth to eighth places are HuaHong Group, Powerchip Semiconductor Manufacturing Co., Ltd. (PSMC), and World Advanced Semiconductor Manufacturing Co., Ltd. (VIS). Except for Powerchip Semiconductor Manufacturing Co., Ltd., the revenues of other companies increased slightly in the second quarter due to factors such as the increase in average selling price and expansion of production.

Nexchip has been actively expanding its production capacity and diversifying its platform processes, driving overall wafer shipment growth and contributing to revenue. Its revenue in the second quarter was approximately US$460 million, a quarterly increase of 4.5%.
