Infineon Technologies "Green Environmental Award"

Elke Reichart, Member of the Board of Management of Infineon Technologies and Chief Digital and Sustainability Officer, said in her welcome speech: "In order to achieve Infineon's ambitious goals, we need the support of our suppliers. The vast majority of Infineon's carbon footprint is Scope 3 emissions, especially the materials we purchase from suppliers. Therefore, we are very much looking forward to working together with you to better promote and implement the decarbonization strategy."

Collaboration with suppliers is an important part of Infineon's overall sustainability strategy. The company has made significant progress towards climate neutrality by 2030: Since 2019, Infineon's CO2 emissions (scope 1 and scope 2) have been halved while revenue has doubled. In December 2023, Infineon also committed to setting science-based carbon targets covering the supply chain (scope 3). Infineon's procurement team is actively helping more than 100 suppliers to set science-based carbon targets and implement appropriate emission reduction measures.

The Supplier Sustainability Summit provided a platform for Infineon to share the lessons learned from its climate strategy and experience, and to facilitate the exchange of best practices among suppliers. For example, experts from Infineon's Power Procurement team shared their practical experience in achieving 100% renewable electricity by 2025; two suppliers shared their experiences in setting effective science-based carbon targets. Infineon leaders and experts from CDP (formerly the Carbon Disclosure Project) explored this topic in depth during the panel discussion, providing more practical advice to attendees.

The Infineon Green Award recognizes suppliers that have demonstrated outstanding environmental work and achievements over the past year. Applied Materials Inc. received the Best Performer Award for its proactive climate strategy, including the 1.5°C science-based carbon target and the company's innovative "Xchange" program. Under the company's Xchange program, Infineon is working directly with it to improve resource efficiency and reduce emissions. The program enables the recycling and refurbishment of spare parts for complex semiconductor equipment, bringing environmental and business benefits to both parties based on a circular economy.

Sumco Corporation, winner of the "Most Improved" award, has made significant progress in environmental sustainability over the past year. The Japan-based company was the first silicon wafer supplier to publicly commit to setting science-based carbon targets. After discussions at the company's top leadership, Sumco took quick action to accelerate the implementation of existing carbon reduction targets and increase the proportion of renewable energy electricity purchased.

In the category of companies with revenues below 1 billion euros, iwis SE & Co. KG received the "Most Improved" award. With its aggressive "Zero Carbon 2040 Plan" and commitment to science-based targets, the Munich-based family-owned company is setting an example for other companies. Infineon Technologies recognized the company's proactive steps to reduce the environmental impact of its operations and supply chain, as well as its integration of climate targets into its factory environmental management systems.

Angelique van der Burg, Chief Procurement Officer at Infineon Technologies, who moderated the summit, said: “Let us congratulate the winners of the Green Award – Applied Materials, Sumco and iwis – and learn from their commitment to environmental sustainability and performance. Their performance will inspire all of our suppliers to raise the bar and follow their example. From now on, let us make best practices become standard practices.”
