Dyneo+ from Leroy-Somer, a Nidec company, together with NOVENCO® ZerAx® axial fans from Denmark, provides efficient and sustainable solutions
Leroy-Somer, a Nidec company, has partnered with a Danish manufacturer of high-efficiency ventilation fans and systems to provide efficient and sustainable solutions. The manufacturer has hired a world-class motor expert to drive the largest fan in its ZerAx® axial fan series, which is specially designed for CO2 recovery in a backfill mine in Germany. The goal is to provide a solution that does not affect climate change. Thanks to the IE5 high-efficiency synchronous Dyneo+ motor, Leroy-Somer has risen to the challenge with flying colors.

A recent renovation project at the Teutschenthal backfill mine in Germany, operated by GTS (Grube Teutschenthal Sicherungs GmbH & Co. KG), a member of the Geiger Group, focused on sustainable green solutions, and NOVENCO ZerAx® axial flow fans were approved as an excellent finalist supplier.
The mine has been used to store more than 200,000 tons of mineral waste from municipal and industrial plants each year since the cessation of potash and rock salt mining in 1982. By using these empty mine caves, the backfill mine at a depth of about 700 meters for environmentally friendly and long-term safe disposal of mineral waste has made a significant and sustainable contribution to environmental protection.
To improve the underground ventilation system to remove CO2 from the stored mineral waste, main contractor Jeremias® Chimney Systems supplied a specially designed 36m high chimney.
For this purpose, NOVENCO supplied a giant Zerax® axial fan with a diameter of 2 meters and an efficiency of up to 92%, which is powered by Leroy-Somer’s Dyneo+ high-efficiency, energy-saving and environmentally friendly permanent magnet motor with an output power of 220 kW.
The IE5 ultra-high efficiency level motor provided is the compact, robust and easy-to-commission Dyneo+ permanent magnet assisted synchronous reluctance motor. With the lowest TCO (total cost of ownership) on the market, very short ROI (return on investment) and low maintenance costs, Dyneo+ provides a cost-effective, efficient and environmentally friendly drive solution.
Dyneo+ combines the ZerAx® axial fan with an efficiency of up to 92%, a recyclability of 98% and a lifespan of more than 20 years. Using Dyneo+ technology means less kWh consumption, less raw material use and lower CO2 emissions. This solution will have great benefits for the environment for many years to come. Compared with IE3 induction asynchronous motors, the frame size of Dyneo+ motors can be replaced by 280 frame motors instead of 315 frame motors or even 355 frame motors. In terms of weight, the total weight of the IE3 asynchronous motor 315 frame motor is 1300 kg, but the 280 frame of Dyneo+ is only 820 kg, which means that the weight of Dyneo+ motors is nearly 500 kg lower. The efficiency level of the motor and the inverter is less than 96.5%.
