Murata's first commercialized 3225-size wire-wound common mode choke coil for power lines that supports large current (maximum 1.2A) and wide bandwidth
Murata Manufacturing Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as "Murata") has developed the "DLW32PH122XK2," Murata's first wire-wound common mode choke coil for power lines, which is compact in 3225 size (3.2 x 2.5 mm), can implement noise countermeasures in a wide frequency band from tens of MHz to several GHz, and can support a maximum current of 1.2A. Mass production will begin in April 2023.
※1 Our company’s survey results. As of March 12, 2023.
In recent years, as the accuracy of ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance Systems) has increased, the automotive industry has begun to install a large number of high-speed sensing devices such as millimeter-wave radar and LiDAR※2. If noise enters these devices from the outside, the system may not work properly. Conversely, if these devices generate noise, it may have an adverse effect on other devices, so noise countermeasures are very important.
In addition, since it is difficult to identify the noise frequency, noise countermeasures must be implemented over a wide frequency band. In the past, there were no high-impedance, wide-band-covering wire wound common mode choke coils used as noise countermeasure components for power lines, and complex countermeasures such as combining multiple components, using electromagnetic wave shielding※3, and strengthening GND (grounding)※4 were required.
※2 LiDAR (Light Detection and Ranging): A system that detects obstacles around the vehicle by irradiating laser beams.
※3 Electromagnetic wave shielding: Wrapping an object with a metal or other plate to shield the surrounding electromagnetic field.
※4 GND (ground): A circuit used to return current that has passed through a signal line or power line. If the impedance of GND is not sufficiently reduced, common mode noise is likely to be generated.
To this end, Murata has combined its unique winding and bonding technologies, structural design optimization, and material technologies to innovatively develop and commercialize a 3225-size, compact, wire-wound common mode choke coil that can implement noise countermeasures over a wide frequency band from tens of MHz to several GHz with a single component and supports power lines with a maximum rated current of 1.2A.
Wire-wound common mode choke coils like the DLW32PH122XK2, which can achieve noise countermeasures over a wide frequency band and can be used for power lines, can also be used for high-performance consumer and industrial equipment.
Murata will continue to contribute to the advancement of automotive functionality by expanding its product lineup to meet various noise countermeasure needs.
Main Features
Supports noise countermeasures in a wide frequency band: Achieves high common mode impedance in a wide frequency band from tens of MHz to several GHz※5. Can suppress malfunctions in the power supply line with the minimum number of parts.
Small size and supports large current: Rated current is up to 1.2A (ambient temperature 105℃), and can be used in a variety of equipment.
Low DC impedance: DC impedance 0.05Ω (typ.). Also reduces power loss and heat generation.
※5 Common mode impedance: Impedance against common mode current. The higher the common mode impedance, the higher the ability to remove common mode noise.
