Customizable device with small two-piece structure, 12 V operating voltage, and operating temperature up to +105 °C, suitable for a variety of harsh in-vehicle environments
MALVERN, Pennsylvania — February 10, 2022 — Vishay Intertechnology, Inc. recently announced the launch of a new 12 V customizable tactile feedback actuator, the IHPT-1411AF-ABA , certified by AEC-Q200 , suitable for various automotive applications such as LCD displays, touch screens, and touch switch panels. Vishay's custom electromagnetic IHPT-1411AF-ABA features a small two-piece structure with mounting holes for easy installation and direct operation, and has high shock pulse and vibration transmission capabilities, providing clear tactile feedback in noisy environments.
The automotive-grade IHPT-1411AF-ABA is an electromagnetic device that converts electrical energy into a mechanical pulse or vibration signal for touch operation, which is controlled by changes in input voltage amplitude and duty cycle. The touch coil assembly generates a magnetic field under the excitation of a DC voltage pulse, which attracts the installed moving magnetic core. After power is removed, the magnetic core returns to its original position under the action of the customer's spring assembly or elastic material.
The device has a fast response time of less than 5 ms and can produce a variety of high-resolution (HD) tactile effects with a maximum operating voltage of 16 V. The operating temperature of this touch feedback actuator can reach +105 C, making it ideal for harsh environments. The device is suitable for automotive dashboards, center consoles, human-machine interface touch screens, and can provide tactile feedback for electronic transmissions, steering wheels, seats, and other in-vehicle control systems.
IHPT-1411AF-ABA skeleton and core components The simple structure allows designers to adjust the return spring configuration layout, and is integrated with the display firmware without the need for an additional housing. In addition, the device's low operating voltage of 12 V eliminates the need for additional high-voltage power supplies required by other technologies. As a result, this actuator costs 40% less than similar technologies such as linear resonant, linear broadband, eccentric rotating mass and piezoelectric actuators, while reducing component height and having higher force density.
The device can drive a 0.5 kg load to 6 g acceleration under 12 V, 5 ms pulse conditions; similar technologies can only drive 0.1 kg to 0.2 kg load to this level. The drive coil inductance is 1.8 mH, the typical DC resistance (DCR) is 0.95 , and the insulation withstand voltage between the coil and the core is 150 VDC. The new actuator complies with RoHS and Vishay green standards, is halogen-free, and uses 100% solder-dipped standard lead terminations. Vishay can customize the IHPT-1411AF-ABA mounting direction, termination type, and performance according to each design requirement.
Samples and production quantities of the new haptic feedback actuators are available now, with lead times of 12 weeks.
