The basic principle of the self-excited feedback switching power supply is shown in the figure. When the input voltage is applied, the current flows to the base of the switch tube VTl through Rg, making VTl conduct. At this time, the diode on the secondary side of the transformer is reverse biased, and no current flows, so the collector current of VTl is equal to the current flowing in the transformer winding Np. Since it is started from zero, VTl can be turned on with a small base current.
