The MAX8660/MAX8661 power-management ICs (PMICs) provide power (AP) for processors in smart cell phones, PDAs, Internet appliances, and other portable devices.
The chip integrates four step-down DC-DC outputs, three linear regulators, one (eighth) standby power LDO and power management circuits. Two dynamically regulated DC-DCs power the processor core and memory; the other two DC-DC converters power I/O, memory and other peripherals. Other functions include: output switch control, low voltage detection, reset output and 2-wire I?C serial interface. MAX8661 has the same functions as MAX8660, but does not have REG1 step-down regulator and REG7 linear regulator.
All step-down DC-DC converters use high-speed 2MHz PWM switching, allowing the use of smaller external components. They automatically switch from PWM mode to high-efficiency light-load operation mode to reduce operating current and extend battery life. In addition, forced PWM mode maintains low noise operation at any load. Overvoltage lockout prevents the device from input voltage greater than 7.5V.
