Dimmable control is a major direction for future LED driver design. In terms of technical implementation, there are two dimming methods: thyristor and PWM. The thyristor dimming method does not require changing the dimming architecture when replacing the old generation of lamps. It has the unique advantage of easy operation and has become the mainstream of future dimmable LED driver design.

NXP Semiconductors has launched compact dimming and non-dimming solutions based on GreenChip™ technology for LED lighting, including the SSL210X series, SSL2108X, and SSL2110X series, as well as another solution specifically designed for high-power dimmable LED drivers, the SSL4101. These solutions can meet the design requirements of low-cost and high-efficiency applications in the 100V, 120V and 230V markets, with a maximum conversion efficiency of up to 95% and a PF of more than 0.9.

A dimmable, low-power, isolated and non-isolated LED constant current driver with high efficiency --- SSL210X series

The SSL210X series is a new generation of constant current driver solutions launched by NXP specifically for dimmable LEDs. It can realize dimming by TRAIC and electronic dimmers, and can be applied to bulb lamps, panel lamps, fluorescent lamps, spotlights and other drivers; the SSL210X series driver is fully compatible with today's lighting infrastructure and can directly use rectified AC power supply and work in combination with thyristor dimmers.

2. Non-dimming low power type, non-isolated LED constant current drive high efficiency solution for connecting high and low voltage mains---SSL2108X series

The SSL2108X series is a high-voltage integrated circuit launched by NXP, which is mainly used to drive non-dimming LED lamps for general lighting. The device integrates 300 V or 600 V power switches and has multiple protection functions such as undervoltage lockout (UVLO), leading edge blanking (LEB), overcurrent protection (OCP), short winding protection (SWP), overtemperature protection (OTP) and short circuit protection (OSP), etc. It can meet the design requirements of low-cost and high-efficiency applications in the 100V, 120V and 230V markets. The maximum conversion efficiency of the driver is as high as 95%, which is another important achievement of NXP's commitment to developing intelligent and efficient lighting solutions.

Three non-dimming low-power types, isolated (flyback topology architecture) LED constant current drive high-efficiency solutions for connecting high and low voltage mains---SSL2110X series

The SSL2110X series is NXP's latest high-efficiency LED driver solution specifically for isolation architectures. The device integrates a 450 V or 700 V power switch and has multiple protection functions such as undervoltage lockout (UVLO), leading edge blanking (LEB), overcurrent protection (OCP), short winding protection (SWP), overtemperature protection (OTP) and short circuit protection (OSP). The driver has a maximum conversion efficiency of up to 95%, a PF of more than 0.95, and a maximum drive power of 15W.

SSL2110X Features

Isolated non-dimming LED driver supporting a wide range of high and low voltages from 100 V to 230 V

High-precision constant current control on the primary side (no secondary optocoupler feedback required)

High-precision output current (typically 3% ripple)

Proprietary Smart Digital Control (SDC) function enables autonomous switching between two applications

-- High PF (> 0.95) and low THD (< 30 %)

-- Low current ripple (to use smaller electrolytic capacitors)

Cooperate with external NTC to realize LED temperature detection and protection function

Startup via an internal high voltage current source, the chip can be powered from the drain in a dV/dt manner by capacitor coupling, or any other auxiliary power supply, allowing full flexibility in application design

Four integrated PFC modulation and PWM control of wide power range LED constant current drive high efficiency solution --- SSL4101

SSL4101T is a multi-chip module (MCM) containing two chips. It makes direct start of rectified wide voltage feasible through the proprietary high voltage BCD800 process. SSL4101T combines a power factor correction controller and a flyback controller together. It has high integration. In the power requirement range of 10W to 300W, SSL4101T makes the design of efficient and reliable LED lighting application power supply easy to implement and requires only a minimum number of external components.

13.jpg

SSL4101 Features

At full load and any rated input voltage, the SSL4101T enables LED lighting applications to achieve an industry standard of input current total harmonic distortion < 20%.

Using the SSL4101T, a low power controller (<50 mW) can be driven directly by the output of the power supply for LED lighting applications while keeping the input power in standby mode below 0.5W maximum.

Particularly high efficiencies can be achieved with the SSL4101T in power supplies for LED lighting applications (between 92% and 94%). This ensures stable operation of the power supply in enclosed spaces with little heat sinking (typical for solid-state lighting applications)

True wide voltage operation: 70 V (AC) to 305 V (AC)

Valley/zero voltage switching minimizes switching losses (NXP Semiconductors patent)

Continuous mode protection with demagnetization detection for all converters (NXP Semiconductors patent)
