In the past, in the field of high-definition surveillance systems, the industry focused on network high-definition surveillance, believing that network storage must be the ultimate choice for users. However, with the development of HD-SDI technology and the maturity of HD-SDI cameras and HD DVR products, HD CCTV is no longer silent and has begun to stir up a ripple in the market. From then on, high-definition surveillance storage is no longer limited to the network method, and HD DVR can also achieve high-definition storage.

Differentiation of HD surveillance storage methods

As we all know, there are two types of high-definition surveillance systems on the market: IP surveillance systems and systems based on HD-SDI technology. The same thing is that no matter which high-definition surveillance method is used, it will bring massive data pressure to storage. The difference is that IP high-definition surveillance systems require a stable network as a basis, while HD CCTV uses coaxial cables as a medium to transmit uncompressed high-definition digital streams, which puts more pressure on storage. So, what are the advantages and disadvantages of these two storage methods on the market? What potential problems will different storage methods bring to users? This article will analyze these two storage methods one by one.

The advantages of network high-definition surveillance storage cannot be ignored

It is undeniable that the development of high-definition monitoring has contributed greatly to the promotion of network storage. This is also due to the obvious advantages of network monitoring. First of all, network storage technology is relatively mature and has many successful application cases. Currently, mainstream front-end manufacturers, storage manufacturers and solution providers are able to provide complete network high-definition monitoring products and network monitoring solutions, laying the foundation for users to choose network monitoring systems; secondly, the use of network monitoring and storage architecture is not only easy to operate, but also saves the material and construction costs of cable layout; in addition, the network storage method can retrieve and manage small amounts of data, so in some newly built systems, users prefer the network method.

It is not easy for IP storage providers to snatch food from the tiger's mouth

Although the industry has never weakened its efforts to promote network monitoring, the penetration rate of the network monitoring market has not yet reached the ideal level in the industry. The main reasons are as follows: First, the compatibility and standardization of network storage products have always been criticized by the industry and users. This makes users need to consider whether they are compatible with the existing system front-end cameras and back-end management platforms when choosing a certain network product, which causes considerable trouble for users; secondly, whether the bandwidth and bit rate of the monitoring system with network storage architecture can meet the requirements of no delay and no frame loss is still under discussion; thirdly, the DVR storage method occupies the majority of the market. It is obviously not as simple as imagined to "let users completely abandon their original equipment and adopt the relatively new and complex network storage technology for them," said Chen Yanfeng, product manager of Blue Star Software Technology Development Co., Ltd. At present, the problem faced by network storage manufacturers is how to train and educate these traditional integrators and engineering companies, and at the same time, it is more important to convince customers to adopt network storage with efficient and reliable solutions and products.

HD DVR takes advantage of the inherent advantages of DH CCTV

It is understood that DVR still accounts for 70% of the market share. Seeing this data, some traditional DVR manufacturers still hold a glimmer of hope for the market and have not completely given up confidence in reviving this market.

According to a user in the financial industry, the existing system of the bank is still in the D1 and CIF era. They have tried to use network products, but found that the front-end and back-end of the high-definition system are often incompatible. However, the HD CCTV system can solve this problem to a certain extent. It can be seen that the development of HD CCTV plays an indispensable role in the market development of HD DVR. In addition, if HD DVR is used for data storage, only the corresponding hardware equipment needs to be replaced, and there is no need to redeploy the original cables and system architecture. This also creates a business opportunity for the application of HD DVR. Gao Tian, product manager of Huiyou Electronics (Beijing) Co., Ltd., said that in addition, there is no delay and image distortion problem through coaxial cable transmission. It is worth mentioning that the dependence of traditional engineering companies on the original system architecture is also one of the factors that HD DVR products pay attention to.

What are the limitations of HD DVR?

Although the industry is very interested in the concept of HD DVR, the technological development of HD DVR is much slower than that of network storage technology and products. The reasons are as follows: First, there are still only a handful of matching products such as HD-SDI cameras, HD DVRs and back-end platform equipment in the security industry, and the development of HD-SDI technology is slow. Even if users tend to choose HD DVR storage, I am afraid that the front-end and back-end cannot meet user needs. Secondly, as a continuation of DVR technology, users will inevitably weigh the cost. Whether users can accept the current price of HD DVR remains to be tested. Finally, the transmission distance of the coaxial cable architecture system is limited, which is bound to affect the application of HD DVR. Furthermore, at present, HD DVR can only support 6 channels of high definition, which is far from meeting the massive data storage needs of high-definition monitoring systems.

Conclusion:

To sum up the above, we can find that DVR manufacturers have declared that they are not completely willing to withdraw from the storage market. At the same time, facing the tightening of network storage, can HD DVR continue the glory of DVR? And can IP storage manufacturers eliminate DVR from the market? It is still impossible to estimate now, but what is certain is that in this transition stage, who occupies the key position and who will be the important role in the future storage market, what the result will be, we have to wait and see.
