Akamai launches new features for App & API Protector to strengthen security defenses and simplify operations

Enhancements include Layer 7 DDoS protection and advanced machine learning capabilities

March 13, 2024 – Akamai Technologies, Inc. (hereinafter referred to as: Akamai), a cloud service provider responsible for supporting and protecting online life, recently announced the launch of a major new product for its flagship product Akamai App & API Protector Enhanced capabilities include advanced defense against complex application-layer distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) attacks. Enhanced Layer 7 DDoS protection now accurately detects and protects against short bursts of DDoS attacks and uses customer reputation scores to improve rate limiting. URL Protection is a new feature that intelligently prioritizes legitimate traffic when users encounter highly distributed attacks, ensuring the availability of mission-critical URLs, APIs, and microservices. 

In addition, App & API Protector now offers browser phishing detection, which uses machine learning to gain insights into browser behavior while minimizing false positives and detecting malicious bots in a more effective way.

Additional features now available to App & API Protector users include: 

●Easy Initial Configuration: Simplify and speed up self-service initial configuration and setup of new applications with just a few mouse clicks 

●CVE Defense Catalog: Provides insights that enable customers to prioritize security efforts based on Akamai's defenses and enables customers to search the Common Vulnerabilities and Exposures (CVE) database to identify Akamai's proactive defenses against vulnerabilities, and Assess threat level and access CVE details

Client-Side Protection & Compliance: Akamai Client-Side Protection & Compliance helps customers comply with PCI DSS v4 regulations and meet the requirements of various industry and global compliance standards

●Advanced SOCC Services: Customers can now receive personalized support and prioritized escalation paths through our Security Operations Command Center (SOCC). These services enable users to stay ahead of sophisticated cyber threats

●Web security analysis update: simplified operations and enhanced analysis capabilities, including customizable dashboards, configuration change indicators, Webhook alerts, etc., while shortening deep links to make it easier for users to share
