You will have to pay 20 years of penalty for number portability! Telecom takes a tough stance
On December 23, according to media reports, Mr. Yang from Taiyuan, Shanxi, obtained a telecom number from a friend in January 2017 with a monthly rent of 299 yuan (6GB of data). He was told that the number was valid for three years and he could change packages at will after three years.
In October this year, Mr. Yang wanted to transfer his number to another network. He learned from a telephone conversation with China Telecom customer service that since the number he signed was for life, the maximum contract period could not exceed 20 years. If he wanted to transfer his number to another network compulsorily, he would have to pay a penalty of 20 years, totaling 18,388.5 yuan.
After the incident was reported, it attracted attention. In response to Mr. Yang’s complaint, the telecom customer service said that it would still be implemented according to the original agreement.
Telecom customer service said that we have referred to the relevant laws, regulations and industry rules to supplement the termination agreement, and our agreement will still be implemented according to the original one. We are temporarily unable to meet Mr. Yang’s request to waive the penalty or cancel the minimum consumption and change the package at will.
Regarding this result, Mr. Yang told the media that he would not rule out the possibility of appeal. In response to the doubts on the Internet, Mr. Yang said that as an ordinary consumer, he just wanted to protect his right to know and his right to choose.
