Last December, Qualcomm won a permanent ban on the sale of iPhone 7/8 (Intel baseband) in Munich, Germany, because Apple infringed Qualcomm's intellectual property rights related to power saving in smartphones (related to Qorvo chips).

Qualcomm announced on January 3 that it had issued secured bonds totaling 1.34 billion euros (approximately 10.4 billion yuan) to enforce a permanent ban on Apple's iPhone.

It is reported that this is to ensure that Apple pays potential losses after the judgment is overturned or revised. The Munich court requires Qualcomm to pay a deposit of 1.34 billion euros.

So, the ban will take effect immediately after Qualcomm posts the required surety bond.

In fact, after the German sales ban was made, Apple removed the relevant mobile phones from its 15 direct stores in Germany, but e-commerce and third-party retail channels have not yet implemented it.

In addition, compared with the sales ban ruling of the Fuzhou Intermediate People's Court, the reason why Apple executed it so quickly in Germany is that the infringing patent involves hardware and cannot be circumvented through software updates as before.
