According to the agreement, Schaeffler plans to establish a wholly-owned company in Hunan Xiangjiang New Area, introduce its Space Drive wire-control technology used in the field of intelligent driving into the new area, and develop a Mover platform system and a 90-degree intelligent steering module that meet the requirements of future intelligent driving to meet the needs of different application scenarios of future unmanned driving. This marks that Schaeffler's core technologies and products for intelligent driving have entered the stage of implementation in China from market promotion.
At the same time, Schaeffler also plans to establish a new R&D center and intelligent driving car research institute in Hunan Xiangjiang New District, which will also become Schaeffler's second R&D center in Greater China.
According to Leifeng.com, the wholly-owned enterprise established by Schaeffler in the New District is the only legal entity for the research and development and application of mechatronic core technologies and components related to chassis systems and system integration related to intelligent driving technology in China. This technology has passed ISO 26262 ASIL D functional safety certification and obtained a license for use on public roads. It is a wire control system with technical and commercial feasibility for mass-produced vehicles. The product itself has the significance of being derived into an industrial platform, which is an important opportunity for the transfer of mature German technology to China.
With both opportunities and strengths, Changsha is accelerating its embrace of the city of autonomous driving.
The signing of the contract between Hunan Xiangjiang New District and Schaeffler provides an important opportunity for Changsha to develop the intelligent networked vehicle industry from building a physical platform to an industrial platform. Relying on the application of Schaeffler's leading and key technologies in the execution unit in the development and integration project of the intelligent driving platform prototype, it will attract high-quality upstream and downstream companies in the perception, decision-making and human-computer interaction industries to carry out localized cooperation, which is conducive to the new district to create an intelligent networked vehicle industry ecosystem. At the same time, it is conducive to promoting the upgrading and transformation of vehicle manufacturers in Changsha, combining the platform's wire-controlled steering system, wire-controlled braking system, and corner module technology-related technologies to effectively reduce production and R&D time costs, form more market-competitive products, and increase market share.
Leifeng.com's New Intelligent Driving learned that there are currently 347 key smart connected vehicle-related companies gathered in Changsha, which is known as the "China Phoenix City" that has come from behind.
Since the beginning of this year, from policies, regulations, road testing to mass production operations, Changsha and Hunan Xiangjiang New District are accelerating the establishment of a complete autonomous driving industry chain deployment with relevant companies in the field of intelligent driving across the country and even the world. Well-known domestic and foreign companies and new car-making forces such as Baidu, JD.com, Continental, and Schaeffler have flocked to it. In terms of policies and regulations, in June this year, Changsha City issued the "Changsha City Opinions on Further Promoting the Development of the Artificial Intelligence Industry" and 6 management regulations involving public road testing of intelligent connected vehicles with the "Changsha City Intelligent Connected Vehicle Road Testing Management Implementation Rules (Trial) V2.0" as the core, and issued 49 test licenses to 5 companies at one time, and the number of licenses issued jumped to second in the country. In terms of road testing environment, Changsha and Hunan Xiangjiang New District are accelerating the construction of 100 kilometers of urban open roads, 100 kilometers of smart highways, autonomous valet parking, and intelligent system equipment testing simulation laboratories to comprehensively create a multi-level and three-dimensional intelligent connected vehicle testing and demonstration environment of "closed + open, virtual + physical, urban + intercity".
Leifeng.com New Intelligent Driving learned that at the beginning of August, the first batch of domestic mass-produced L4 Robotaxi produced by Baidu and Hongqi landed in Changsha. A variety of intelligent networked vehicles and application scenarios such as self-driving sanitation vehicles, self-driving buses, self-driving heavy trucks, and self-driving shuttle buses have been fully implemented in Changsha for demonstration and application. At present, Changsha's "two 100 kilometers" open roads are about to open, and the city-level closed + open intelligent networked test environment will further accelerate Changsha's move towards an autonomous driving city.
