Report from Leiphone.com (leiphone-sz)
According to Leifeng.com AI Technology Review: The list of 2018 Google PhD Fellowship (North America, Europe, and the Middle East) was released recently. A total of 39 doctoral students were selected, including 8 Chinese.
The Google PhD program was established in 2009 to recognize outstanding PhD students in computer science and related disciplines. It has been 9 years since then. The program has supported hundreds of outstanding PhD students, some of whom have become teachers, industry researchers, entrepreneurs or business owners. According to Leifeng.com, the selected students can not only receive a considerable amount of research funding, but also have the opportunity to obtain internships at Google and have in-depth exchanges with experienced research institute mentors.
Leifeng.com learned that the Google PhD Scholarship must be applied for by eligible schools (students are not allowed to apply directly), and each school can only nominate two doctoral students, so the competition is very fierce. The selection areas include the following 12 directions:
-
Algorithms, Optimizations and Markets
-
Computational Neuroscience
-
Human-Computer Interaction
-
Machine Learning
-
Mobile Computing
-
Machine Perception, Speech Technology and Computer Vision
-
Natural Language Processing
-
Privacy and Security
-
Programming Technology and Software Engineering
-
Quantum Computing
-
Structured Data and Database Management
-
Systems and Networking
