Buying a car is not difficult, parking is the challenge!

Parking has always been one of the troubles of urban office workers. Colleagues often complain to me that the daily traffic jams are already troublesome, and they have to look for parking spaces everywhere, which wastes time and gas, and ruins the good mood of the day on the way to work. More than 18% of respondents in the Asia-Pacific region believe that parking is the main reason for the deterioration of commuting.

Parking spaces are extremely limited in cities, especially in office areas. Sometimes drivers have to drive around for a long time within a kilometer or two to find a parking space. If you are unlucky, it may take an hour to find a parking space. Do you ICers have the same experience as me?
In this era of the upcoming "Internet of Vehicles", this issue has begun to receive attention. The " Internet + Parking " model has spawned a series of products, and multiple parking apps set off a wave of popularity last year.
The parking system cooperates with a wide range of parking lots in the city, and has signed strategic cooperation agreements with Alibaba Cloud, Alipay, and AutoNavi Maps. Parking space information is updated in real time. Through the system, users can see which parking spaces are available nearby and navigate directly to them, making full use of the available parking spaces. There are also functions such as parking space reservation and valet parking, and parking fees can be paid online, avoiding the trouble of waiting in long queues to pay.
Although there are not many empty spaces in each parking lot, when combined together, it is a large number. It seems that the "Internet + parking" model can solve the problem of parking difficulties. But I want to say that, like many smart products, this is still an area that urgently needs to find a way out.
There are two reasons for this:
one
Cooperation model and cost control
In terms of subsidies, parking platforms closely follow the Didi taxi model, giving subsidies to each car owner and inducing them to park at designated parking lots. However, in fact, car owners usually have only two fixed parking spots every day: home and office. Needless to say, the former is where the latter is convenient, so subsidies are basically useless to car owners. The only place where they can use it is shopping malls, but the frequency is very low, so it seems useless.

There is also the issue of equipment. To realize the "Internet of Vehicles", parking barriers must be upgraded to smart ones, but good equipment is very expensive, ranging from 50,000 to 300,000. Most parking platforms attract parking lots to cooperate with them by offering free installation, free gifts, and free maintenance. This means a lot of equipment expenses, but strangely, based on the financing amount and the number of parking lot cooperations announced by the current parking app, the actual equipment expenses are very low, which indirectly explains why parking platform equipment is prone to failure.

More importantly, there is no established profit model at present. Major parking platforms are in the stage of burning money. Large companies can survive until the industrial chain is formed, but small companies will die after burning out. In terms of cooperation model and cost control, parking platforms still have a long way to go.
two
Parking business model
Time-sharing parking is a major selling point of the parking platform. Specifically, when residents are at work during the day, they can use their own parking spaces for nearby office workers, and the fare is split between the residents and the platform. Similarly, at night, the parking spaces of office buildings are used by nearby residents.
This plan sounds good, but the facts show that it is not feasible. The reason is simple. Whether it is office workers or residents, they all have familiar parking spaces in the areas where they have been active for a long time. If there are no parking spaces when they are at work, users will subconsciously look for the familiar standby parking spaces instead of temporary parking spaces for residents. This unstable and luck-based parking space is a trouble for them rather than a surprise, so the popularity of time-sharing parking is not high.
Construction of "Parking +" Ecological Environment
Although the current parking platform is still struggling with the parking space issue, the core of smart parking is not only to achieve "worry-free parking", but to make parking a platform that connects other businesses, such as catering, clothing, entertainment venues, hotels, etc., starting with non-stop electronic payment and providing real-time parking space information, radiating to the surrounding areas of life, and at the same time recommending high-quality automotive after-sales service products to users, so that the necessities of life such as food, clothing, housing and transportation are within reach.
Transforming from a closed parking self-circulation to an open "parking +" integrated development mode, changing the parking industry structure dominated by a single parking format, building a complex parking industry structure based on parking as a platform, and promoting the transformation of parking from "dependence on real estate" to "parking ecology" - this is the grandest vision of "Internet + Parking".

I and my colleagues who are still struggling to find a parking space believe that in the near future, parking will no longer be a problem.
