The ST25TA-E is an innovative blockchain-compatible NFC tag (Class 4) chip with reliable security and privacy features. It is mainly used in luxury goods (clothing, jewelry/watches, luxury handbags), wine, artworks (paintings/sculptures), and other blockchain-based NFTs that require digital certificates for brand protection, anti-cloning, product authentication, and asset tracking.
The ST25TA-E achieves brand protection through key technologies such as asymmetric ECC encryption engine, Edge TruST25 TM digital signature (on-chip ECDSA), TruST25 TM digital signature (off-chip ECDSA), chip-unique key pair (dual slots), password and lock file mechanism.
Since ST25TA-E is based on ECDSA, the elliptic curve digital signature algorithm, it supports on-chip digital signature generation, and each signature is different, so it cannot be predicted or forged. The generated digital signature natively supports the blockchain format, so it can be seamlessly integrated into the existing blockchain network, giving the physical product a digital identity while helping it to establish a digital twin.

Other features include:

  • Improving consumer experience through enhanced NDEF

  • General purpose counters configurable per event

  • Supports GDPR compliant privacy modes (Kill and Anonymous)

  • Short-distance operation at speeds up to 106 kb/s

  • Dynamically append tag-associated credentials to NDEF for consumer interaction (ANDEF)

Achieving a secure bridge from physical to digital

To achieve the bridge from physical to digital, the commonly used technologies include QR codes, ordinary NFC tags, and NFC tags based on symmetric encryption algorithms. These technologies all have certain disadvantages: QR codes are not secure, affect the appearance, and have no offline data storage. Ordinary NFC tags have low security/robustness. NFC tags based on symmetric encryption algorithms require secure storage of keys on the tags and card readers/applications.

The ST25TA-E device is based on an asymmetric cryptographic architecture that is highly secure and ensures the presence of physical assets (tag signature contains server data), without the need to securely store public keys on the reader/application.

Designed for physical product authentication, ST25TA-E can provide value-added consumer interactions for brands, such as better product traceability, prevention of gray markets, and anti-counterfeiting protection. It can also provide consumers with a lot of value, such as proactive self-protection from counterfeiting, product certification and proof of ownership when reselling, and a tailored consumer experience (product level).
