Change and opportunity, explore the future of 5G with Amon
Today, the "What's Next in 5G" video series ushered in the final episode, in which Qualcomm President and CEO-elect Amon will analyze how Qualcomm will build the future of wireless technology and explore the future of 5G.
The following is the full text of Amon’s speech:
The road to 5G
Qualcomm President and CEO -elect Amon
Thanks for watching our video series. Vanitha, Madeja, Valerio, Gautam, and Chuang are just some of the talented experts at Qualcomm who are leading the future of 5G. I’m proud of the work these experts and every Qualcomm employee do, and I know they will provide the insider perspective you’ve come to expect.
One thing we all agree on is that the last year has made connection even more important. I've known this for years, but this year has made it even more special. I know a lot of people have had similar experiences. For example, we've been talking about the future of video calls. Now that video calls have gone mainstream, they've changed the way we talk forever. Now, video calls are how we connect with our loved ones and collaborate with our colleagues every day.
Today, more and more people are realizing the potential of the next generation of connectivity technology to not only keep us connected, but also to drive the digitalization of society and the economy. In less than 6 months, people around the world have gained the understanding that usually takes more than 5 years to popularize. If you have watched this series of videos in full, you have learned about our exciting new products and technologies that will further promote the development of 5G.
The Snapdragon X65 modem-RF system is designed to break 10Gbps speeds - enabling new and enhanced user experiences in the video-first era. By supporting the latest 5G Release 16 specification and introducing new features through software updates, Snapdragon X65 is the cornerstone of our efforts to bring the benefits of 5G to nearly every industry.
To build such an excellent modem and RF system, you need excellent RF. That's why we have comprehensively improved the capabilities of Qualcomm RF front-end solutions. We launched the world's first AI antenna tuning technology, which uses AI training models to understand how users hold their phones and tune the antenna accordingly.
We have also launched a next-generation power tracking solution that is smaller, more efficient, and more cost-effective. It supports the large channel bandwidths used by 4G and 5G, and can extremely accurately determine the power required for the terminal to transmit wireless signals. From the end result, Qualcomm's latest power tracking solution has better performance than other manufacturers' ordinary power tracking technology. The above technologies and many RF front-end enhancements are designed to bring users excellent 5G performance, amazing speeds, wide coverage, and ultra-long battery life!
With the efforts of all Qualcomm employees, innovation will continue to deepen. Qualcomm is focused on driving 5G forward and providing solutions that support 5G to realize its full potential. Looking ahead, 5G is critical to the digital future and cloud economy. For Qualcomm, the 5G transformation has become our biggest development opportunity. The continued integration of mobile technology with edge terminals and the cloud has driven the growth of demand for Qualcomm technology in many industries. 5G will also have a huge and broad economic impact - by 2035, 5G will create more than $13 trillion in economic output.
I'm also thinking about what Qualcomm's technological innovation can do for areas that lack network services. In particular, I hope to see more places connected to the Internet and access to computing resources. For example, with the new Qualcomm 5G fixed wireless access platform, we can help the industry provide more competitive broadband network access to more remote areas. Just as 4G enabled many people around the world to access the Internet for the first time, 5G will help popularize cloud computing. This is Qualcomm's role in narrowing the digital divide and an example of our innovation changing people's lives.
We know that 5G is very important, which is why we are working hard to accelerate the commercialization of 5G by one year. The epidemic has not slowed us down, but has prompted us to continue to work hard to achieve innovation in connectivity, computing and communication technologies to help communities, industries and economies keep running.
More innovations will emerge rapidly in the coming years. At Qualcomm, we will do our best to create technologies that drive the evolution of 5G and future mobile communications technology changes. It is this vision, as well as our unremitting investment in R&D and our outstanding team, that has enabled Qualcomm to become the world's leading wireless technology innovator.
We look forward to continued communication with you. Thanks for watching.
