For three consecutive years, six graduates from Huazhong University of Science and Technology have been selected for Huawei's "Genius Youth" program.

According to the plan, this paper will use the text detection algorithm in the paper of a senior in the laboratory. However, Liao Minghui found that this algorithm has too many hyperparameters, and the effect after changing the data set is not very ideal.
When the parameter adjustment effect was still not good, Liao Minghui wondered if a simpler and lighter algorithm could be designed?
So, under the guidance of his mentor and senior students, he proposed a text detector with a single deep neural network: TextBoxes.
Moreover, this research was published at the top artificial intelligence conference AAAI 2017 and has been cited 522 times on Google Scholar.
It is understood that the text detection algorithm published by Liao Minghui has been adopted by companies such as Tencent WeChat and Baidu, and included in the main branch of OpenCV.
During his doctoral studies, Liao Minghui was on a roll, publishing 10 first-author papers.
These include 2 top journals (both ESI highly cited papers) , 7 top conferences and 1 Zone II journal.
