Five tips for finding your ideal job
Original text: Finding the Work You Love - Zenhabits
Finding a job is like falling in love, you have to love it. If you haven't found your ideal job yet, don't commit easily, keep looking. When you really find that job, you will feel it from the bottom of your heart. ——Steve Jobs' speech at the Stanford graduation ceremony.
A key factor in whether you are happy and productive at work is whether you love your work and are fully engaged in it. So choose a job you want to do, not just for the sake of doing it. When you really want to do a job, it is no longer a job in your mind. The
job I want to do most is writing. I no longer have to go to work bleary-eyed, but now I get up early every day and can't wait to start working.
Of course, there are millions of people around the world who are passionate about their work, and I am just one of them. Are you one of them? Do you want to be one of them?
The difficulty many people find is that they don't know what kind of work is worth putting first. They don't know how to start, so they feel that the road ahead is bleak.
This is not the case. You can find that dream job, of course, you have to work hard to find it. Here are five things you must know when looking for your dream job:
1. You are looking for a job, but the job will not look for you. Doing the same thing every day will not help you find your ideal job, unless you get lucky one day and it falls from the sky. Most people don't rely on luck - you have to take action and look for it.
2. Don't stop until you find it. As Steve Jobs said, don't commit too easily. It would be nice if you could find a job that's a little better than your current one, but don't stop there. Keep looking. Don't stop.
3. You have to try a lot of interesting things. This is a real journey of discovery. Develop new habits, meet new people, read a lot of magazines and books. Inspiration may burst from any place you never thought of.
4. You may not fall in love with what you do right away unless you are good at it. Many times you will know that you really like something once you encounter it, but sometimes it takes a while to fully improve your work skills to make yourself fall in love with your career. Once you are good at this job, you can't stop because you have mastered the key to how to do things well.
5. Once you find it, commit yourself to it. If you find the ideal career in your heart, you have received a great gift of life. Don't destroy this beauty, you have to really put yourself into it. This doesn't mean that you should ignore other beautiful things such as family, friends, etc. Once you are working, go all out to work.
Here are some tips to help you find your passion for work:
1. Stop the routine and ask yourself. You need to stop doing your daily routine occasionally, maybe today, maybe tomorrow, next week, maybe right now. Please ask yourself boldly: Do you love what you are doing now? If you don’t love it, what do you love? If you don’t know, do you want to find out?
2. Take time to think carefully. It is very necessary to spend an hour or two to think carefully. Think carefully about your life, what you are doing, and what you want to do.
3. Think about what you really love. Do you have a hobby that you are passionate about? What do you like to read? What do you talk about with others? Is there something you really want to do but always forget to do it or don't have the courage to pursue?
4. What is your dream? Is there any goal you have always wanted to achieve? Basically everyone has a dream, but many people think that these ideas are not realistic (how can you know if they are realistic without trying). Think carefully about what your dream is.
5. What are you good at? What are your strengths and talents? Is there anything you do very well? Think of it as your career.
6. Take action. If you do nothing but dream, you will get nothing. Start taking action now. Do research, make phone calls, schedule meetings, and do career assessments.
7. Discover new things. Take up new and interesting hobbies, read about areas you have never read before, break your inherent patterns, and find new ways to explore.
8. Once you find something interesting, study it in depth. You can read related articles and constantly improve your ability through learning and practice. Don't be afraid. Fear is the real reason why most people cannot find happiness.
9. Take action again. Now that you have an idea of what you are interested in, take action! You may be able to practice it in your current job, do it as a part-time job, or just do it as a hobby. Connect with people in the same industry to learn about their starting journey. Go to the library to read relevant books, and search the Internet to see what you need to do as a beginner. The following things are just to do it. Happy dreaming!
"Waking up in the morning doing something you love can make a world of difference in your life. If you don't like your current job, leave it immediately, even though it's not easy." - Bob Woodward
