Global silicon wafer shipment growth to rebound in 2024
Source: The content is compiled from SEMI by Semiconductor Industry Observer (ID: icbank), thank you.
SEMI recently reported that global silicon wafer shipments are expected to decline 14% in 2023 from a record 14,565 MSI in 2022 to 12.512 billion square inches (MSI), and then as wafer and semiconductor demand recovers and inventory levels Normalization, rebounding in 2024 in its annual silicon shipment forecast. Continued weakness in semiconductor demand and challenging macroeconomic conditions are driving the decline in 2023.
The rebound in 2024 is expected to continue into 2026, with wafer shipments reaching new highs as demand for silicon increases to support artificial intelligence (AI), high-performance computing (HPC), 5G, automotive and industrial applications.

*Total electronic grade silicon wafers – excludes unpolished and recycled wafers
*Shipments are for semiconductor applications only, excluding solar applications
Silicon wafers are the basic building material for most semiconductors, which are an essential component of all electronic devices. The highly engineered thin disks, which can be up to 12 inches in diameter, serve as the substrate material for making most semiconductor devices or chips.
All data cited in this release includes polished and epitaxial silicon wafers shipped by wafer manufacturers to end users. This data does not include unpolished or recycled wafers.
