Santa Clara, California and Cambridge, UK, April 12, 2023 – Intel Foundry Services (IFS) and Arm today announced the signing of a multi-generation cutting-edge system-on-chip design. The agreement aims to enable chip design companies to develop low-power computing system-on-chips (SoCs) using Intel's 18A process technology. This cooperation will first focus on the design of mobile system-level chips, and is expected to expand to automotive, Internet of Things, data centers, aviation and government applications in the future. Arm® customers will benefit from the outstanding Intel 18A process technology when designing next-generation mobile system-on-chips, which brings new breakthrough transistor technology, effectively reducing power consumption and improving transistor performance. At the same time, they will also benefit from the strong manufacturing capabilities of Intel Foundry Services.

Intel Foundry Services Group and Arm will conduct design process co-optimization (DTCO). Among them, chip design and process technology will be optimized together to improve the power consumption, performance, area and cost (PPAC) of the Arm core for Intel 18A process technology. Intel 18A offers two breakthrough technologies - PowerVia to optimize power delivery and RibbonFET, a gate-all-around (GAA) transistor architecture to optimize performance and power consumption. Intel Foundry Services and Arm will develop a mobile reference design to demonstrate software and system knowledge to foundry customers. As the industry evolves from Design Process Co-Optimization (DTCO) to System Process Co-Optimization (STCO), Arm and Intel Foundry Services will work together to fully leverage Intel's unique open system-level foundry model, through packaging and silicon Optimize applications and software platforms.
