Allwinner Technology and Arm China jointly launch the first AI voice dedicated chip R329

With the rapid growth of the artificial intelligence industry, Allwinner Technology has led smart speakers into the AI ​​era based on the fact that the 2019 smart voice dedicated processor R328 won the "2019 Global Electronic Achievement Award" audio processor product award. Recently, it officially released the blockbuster product R329, which is dedicated to AI voice. This is Allwinner Technology's first high-computing power, low-power AI voice dedicated chip equipped with Arm China's new AI processing unit (AIPU). By integrating high-performance AIPU, DSP, and CPU, it will bring a brand-new AI interactive experience to smart speakers and smart homes, and help create "new AI new computing power" smart voice products.

In terms of AI, Allwinner Technology R329 is equipped with Arm China's "Zhouyi" AIPU , which provides a computing power of up to 0.256TOPS , bringing new and more powerful dedicated computing power to artificial intelligence voice applications. As an AI dedicated core, Zhouyi AIPU's theoretical AI computing power is 25 times that of a single-core A7 1.2GHz and 25 times that of a single-core HIFI4 600MHz. Based on the powerful features of Zhouyi AIPU, it will have greater advantages in computing power and energy efficiency over previous products. Using deep learning as an end-to-end algorithm, compared with traditional noise reduction, echo cancellation and keyword recognition algorithms, the effect is greatly improved, significantly improving the recognition rate and interactive experience.



Dual-core Cortex-A53, excellent performance improvement

Allwinner R329 has powerful performance. It uses two Arm Cortex-A53 cores with a main frequency of up to 1.5GHz , which has a significant computing power advantage compared to other solutions using A35 cores. Compared with R328, the newly upgraded R329 provides up to 1.58 times the integer computing power and 1.94 times the floating point computing power, providing a more sufficient system computing power foundation for the application of intelligent voice products.



Dual-core HIFI4, better experience

R329 integrates dual-core HIFI4 400MHz . Two HIFI4 can be used for audio pre- and post-processing to maximize the original audio computing power. While intelligent interaction, the sound quality is also significantly improved. The high-quality sound enjoyment brought by the HIFi-level sound effect algorithm enables ordinary smart speakers to have the sound quality of HIFI speakers above 1,000 yuan.


In terms of low power consumption, Allwinner R329 adopts a new chip architecture design and uses high-performance, low-power AIPU dedicated hardware acceleration. While improving the computing performance of artificial intelligence, it greatly reduces power consumption, solving the pain point that smart speakers generally do not support battery power supply. The integrated dual-core HIFI4 400MHz can achieve excellent energy efficiency to the greatest extent, reduce product heating during use, and provide a better experience. At the same time, with the chip's integrated SRAM and embedded second-generation VAD hardware, power consumption and heat can be further reduced. For example, a 2500mA battery can achieve a standby time of 1 week, bringing excellent product endurance.


In terms of audio interface and application, the R329 chip integrates 5-channel audio ADC and 2-channel audio DAC, which is the most comprehensive product portfolio design for audio interface in Allwinner's history. 3MIC+dual speaker AEC solution can be realized without external plug-in, and 4MIC+single speaker AEC solution can also be realized. In terms of audio IO interface, through the built-in DAC, I2S and DMIC controllers, it can be flexibly expanded to support 6-53 microphones in the professional audio field , and can support the design of high sound pickup requirements for conference systems and remote business offices. On this basis, more advanced audio outputs such as 5.1 channels and 7.1 channels can be achieved, with a high signal-to-noise ratio DAC of up to 100dB, providing users with a more professional and amazing sound quality experience.


In terms of cost competitiveness, based on the success of R328, R329 follows the design concept of R328, with built-in DDR and integrated dual-channel LDO. Only a few simple peripheral devices are needed to realize a complete smart speaker solution. At the same time, Allwinner can provide supporting WIFI&BT chips and AUDIO ADC chips to provide customers with a comprehensive turnkey solution.
