New blockbuster product | ams innovative interface technology easily solves the structural design problems of true wireless earbuds

Previous true wireless earbud technology required six wires to achieve charging and communication with the charging box, which would restrict the small and comfortable mechanical structure design required for in-ear earbuds. ams' POW:COM only requires two wires to complete this function.


The unique POW:COM technology between the earbuds and the charging box can realize power supply and communication at the same time through dual pins, which improves the charging experience. POW:COM interface technology For the first time, it has achieved a synchronous data transmission rate of 1Kbit/s and a charging current of more than 150mA , which far exceeds the current application requirements.

The POW:COM interface only requires a master chip AS3442 (placed in the charging box) and a slave chip AS3447 (placed in each earbud) to implement. The complex POW:COM protocol can realize 5V power transmission, I2C communication , interrupt signal transmission and up to 5 GPIO applications between each pair of AS3442 and AS3447 devices through a single transmission signal line.

POW:COM’s communication capabilities enhance the user experience of charging box devices. For example, the earphones can obtain battery information from the charging box and present it on the mobile app.

The POW:COM interface also allows earbud device manufacturers to implement other useful features, such as automatic charging, automatic pairing of the earbuds and the phone when the charging case is opened, and automatic firmware updates while the accessory is charging .

“The ams POW:COM interface radically reduces the design constraints on true wireless earbuds,” said Christian Feierl, Marketing Manager at ams . “With fewer pins between the earbud and the charging case than six to two, designers have more flexibility in reducing the size of the earbud and the surface area, which in turn creates greater value for the user.”


POW:COM devices are already in mass production and some brand manufacturers have already adopted this technology from ams in earbuds. The products are expected to be available in December in time for the upcoming holiday shopping rush.
